Preview
Today we have Nationals traveling to New York to take on the Mets. The Nat’s were sellers at the trade deadline so they’re not exactly rolling out and MLB lineup now a days. Both teams will most likely miss the playoffs. Both teams offenses are on the struggle bus lately. This series is split at 6-6 in the 12 games played so far this season.
The nationals were able to win their first game of the series yesterday. They are led my Juan Soto and Josh Bell but that’s about it. They come into this game 2-3 in their last 5 games. They’ll see if they can get anything started against this Mets team.
The mets come into this game struggling, losing 4 straight to the Giants at home and then losing the first game in this series last night. The Mets offense has been underperforming all year when you consider who they have in their lineup. Look to see if they can wake up the bats in this one as they take on a bad starting pitcher and a weak bullpen.
Pitching Matchup
Mets
Marcus Stroman (9-12, 2.85 ERA) will be on the bump for the Mets today. He comes into this game with a 1.11 WHIP and 3.84 XFIP. Stroman is a ground ball pitcher and that’s how he’s made his money. He has been allowing some quality contact but it has mainly been on the ground. He boasts over a 50% ground ball rate so look for him to keep the ball out of the air.
Nationals
Sean Nolin (0-2, 9.00 ERA) will be throwing the rock for the lowly Nationals today. He comes into this game with some abysmal numbers, boasting a 2.34 WHIP and 4.24 XFIP. He has a low strikeout rate and high walk rate setting himself up for disappointment in this one. He’s been getting hit extremely hard and allowing a high fly ball rate, a recipe for disaster.
Prediction
This one is pretty simple to me, you have a bad pitcher backed by a bad bullpen, who’s offense has been struggling. The mets should have their way today if the bats wake up, which I think they will. Look for the Mets to get to Nolin and then take on whoever they throw out to stop the bleeding
PICK: Mets -1.5 (-106)
