Preview
The Oakland Athletics will be trying to split the four-game series against the New York Yankees. New York won 7-6 on Thursday, 8-2 on Friday, and Oakland took the third game 3-2 on Saturday. Yesterday's game snapped the Yankees 13-game winning streak.
The offense of the Yankees has been clicking as in their last 14 games, they are scoring 5.5 runs per game.
The A's have not been scoring many runs in their previous six games as they are averaging 2.67 runs per game.
Pitching matchup
Yankees
Jordan Montgomery (5-5, 3.69 ERA) will be taking the mound looking to win the series against the Oakland Athletics. He is coming off a victory against the Atlanta Braves where he went five innings and allowed a run on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts. He faced the Athletics once this season and the hitters barely touched him as he went 3-of-19 (.158) with a solo home run while having two walks and six strikeouts.
Athletics
Paul Blackburn (0-1, 4.09 ERA) takes the ball looking to split the four-game series here. He did not factor in the decision against the Seattle Mariners where he allowed a pair of runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. This will also be his first time seeing the New York Yankees lineup for himself but he has been pitching well as hitters have a .233 batting average against him in 11 innings so far this season as this will be his third start of the season.
Prediction
This will be the final game between these two teams unless they manage to meet in the postseason and the Yankees have a 4-2 advantage thus far. Jordan Montgomery is 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA in six games since the All-Star break while this is only Paul Blackburn's third game this season. New York has a solid lineup and definitely will be looking to win as they are still five games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. All in all, go with the Yankees to win here to end the series.
