Preview

The Hawaii Warriors will fly to Reno and take on the Nevada Wolf Pack this weekend for a Mountain West clash. Both teams enter with momentum after defeating conference powers over the past two weeks, with the Wolf Pack taking down Boise State, and the Warriors defeating Fresno State at home last Saturday.

The Hawaii Warriors picked up their first win over a ranked team in three seasons last weekend when they took down Fresno State. Despite trailing at halftime, a big fourth quarter from the offense led to a 27-24 victory.

Nevada was able to put up a season-high 55 points at home last weekend in their route of New Mexico State. After jumping out to a 28-10 lead at halftime, the Wolf Pack poured it on and took down the Aggies 55-28.

Offensive matchup
Hawaii (3-3, 1-1)

Freshman quarterback Brayden Schager stepped in and played admirably down the stretch last weekend. Despite completing just 42% of his passes, Schager protected the football, and threw a pair of touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. He's in line to start again this weekend in Reno.

The Warriors have a pair of talented backs to lean on. Dae Dae Hunter leads the team with 384 rushing yards after a big 127-yard performance last weekend. Calvin Turner Jr. is a big key to their offense, as the senior back has rushed for 184 yards, he leads the team with 31 catches, and he scored eight times this season.

While Turner leads the team in catches, Nick Mardner has grown into a solid deep threat. The sophomore receiver leads the team with 492 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.

Nevada (4-1, 3-0)

Carson Strong continues to play at an impressive level. The junior quarterback went 25-32 for 377 yards and a career-high six touchdown passes in the win over New Mexico State. He's up to 1,595 passing yards with 14 touchdowns to three interceptions for the season.

Toa Taua leads the backfield for a fourth straight season. The senior back leads the team with 307 rushing yards on 44 carries, caught 13 passes and scored three touchdowns this year.

Strong has done a very good job of spreading the ball out this season. Leading receiver Romeo Doubs missed last week, but junior wideout Melquan Stovall had a big game, going for seven catches and 155 receiving yards, including a 65-yard touchdown.

Prediction

These Hawaii/Nevada matchups have been historically close and high scoring. Nevada should win this game handily at home, but the margin of 15 feels riskier when none of their games have gone under this season. They score alot, but their having trouble stopping teams from putting points on the board for four quarters. Take the over this Saturday night.
