Preview

The George Washington Colonials will open Atlantic 10 play by hosting the Dayton Flyers this weekend.

Dayton opened Atlantic Ten play with a tough loss to VCU, 53-52. The Flyers had a respectable non-conference slate that included wins over Kansas, Virginia Tech, and Miami, and they should be in picture come March.

George Washington will be returning to the court for the first time in nearly a month. The Colonials struggled out of the gate but they did win their last two games over Coppin State and Radford.

Dayton (9-6)

Toumani Camara has come in and grown into the leader of this Dayton squad early. The Georgia transfer leads the rugged team in scoring (10.8) and rebounding (6.7), and he recorded his first double-double of the season against Southern U.

Daron Holmes II joins him in the frontcourt. The 6'10 freshman double-doubled and blocked four shots in the loss to VCU, and he's second on the team in both scoring (10.5) and (5.4). Holmes also ranks second in the A-10 with 2.4 bpg.

Fellow freshman Malachi Smith has impressed early in the backcourt. The 6' do-it-all guard scores 10.1 ppg, grabs 3.9 rpg, and leads the team with 4.5 apg.

George Washington (4-8)

James Bishop returned to DC after a successful first season in the Capitol. The junior has scored 20 or more in three of his last four games, and he leads the Colonials with 15.8 ppg.

GWU struck well through the transfer portal, bringing in guards Joe Bamisile and Brendan Adams. Bamisile, a Virginia Tech transfer, scored a career-high 25 points in the win over Coppin State, and he's second on the team with 13.1 ppg. Adams has cover over from UConn and brought stability and experience into the backcourt, averaging 11.1 ppg and 4.3 rpg.

Hometown kid Ricky Lindo Jr. mans the frontcourt, and he scores 9.5 ppg, while leading GWU in rebounding (8.2)

Prediction

George Washington's layoff is the biggest thing they'll have going against them this weekend. They're a 4-8 squad about to face a perennial NCAA tournament team after missing nearly a month of action. There will be rust, and Dayton's rugged unit should pounce at the opportunity to defend and play at their own pace.

Take Dayton's spread for this one.
