Preview

The Maryland Terrapins will face their former rivals, the Virginia Tech Hokies, in the Pinstripe Bowl on Wednesday.

Maryland struggled to compete with Big Ten powers this season, dropping four of their last five games.

Virginia Tech managed to finish 500 with a road win over Virginia to close out the regular season.

Offensive matchup
Maryland (6-6)

Taulia Tagovailoa has been the catalyst to the Terps great start. He's settled all the way in after transferring from Alabama, and he might just crash the party in the Big Ten next season.

Tagovailoa finished the regular season with 3,595 yards, with 24 touchdowns to eleven interceptions.

Tayon Fleet-Davis brings experience and versatility to the backfield. He's gained for 644 rushing yards on 120 carries, with 32 catches for 305 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns.

Rakim Jarrett blossomed in Dontay Demus Jr. absence, leading the team with 56 catches for 769 receiving yards and five scores.

Virginia Tech (6-6)

Braxton Burmeister is going to try to give it a go this weekend, but Texas A&M transfer brings a different element to the quarterback position. The dual-threat quarterback tossed a pair of touchdowns, and ran for 132 yards after starting the second half for the Hokies.

Raheem Blackshear and Malachi Thomas have split the backfield load this season. Blackshear leads the team with 545 rushing yards, while Thomas has gained 421 yards.

Star wide Tre Turner had a career day against Georgia Tech, catching seven passes for 187 receiving yards, including a 69-yard touchdown. Sophomore Tayvion Robinson has 470 receiving yards, and leads the team in catches with 41.

Prediction

This will be a sneaky good game, featuring a quarterback who needs to send a message. The Terps strong start was a sign, but they tailed off once Big Ten play began. The talent is still their, and a big win here will bring a lot of optimism heading into 2022.

Take the Terps spread for this one.
