Preview

The BYU Cougars will host the Idaho State Bengals for homecoming as they look to close in on their first ever CFB Playoff bid.

Idaho State will likely have their hands full here as they enter FCS territory against one of the hottest teams in the region.

BYU responded to two straight losses with a wins over Washington State and Virginia, and they now will look to coast into the CFB picture from here.

Offensive matchup
Idaho State (1-7)

Hunter Hays starts at quarterback, and he's struggled since the team's lone win over UC Davis. He went 10-15 for 121 yards and a touchdown in last week's loss to Weber State.

There hasn't been much room for Bengal ball carriers this season. Freshman Tyevin Ford leads the team with 298 rushing yards on the season.

Tanner Conner gives the Bengals a respectable pass catcher on the outside. The senior wideout was effective against Weber State, catching seven balls for 110 yards.

BYU (7-2)

Jaren Hall had another strong start against UVA. The sophomore quarterback went 22-37 for a career-high 349 passing yards and three scores, bringing his season totals to 1,697 passing yards with twelve touchdowns to three interceptions, while rushing for 247 yards and an two scores this season.

Tyler Allgeier is the key to the BYU offense, and he's coming off of arguably the best performance of his college career. After rushing for a career-high 191 yards on 32 carries against Washington State, he outdid himself against the Cavaliers, rushing for 266 yards and a whopping five touchdowns.

Allgeier is up to 1,122 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns for the season, and both rank in the top-5 nationally.

BYU has a solid duo at wideout in Neil Pau’u and Gunner Romney. Romney led the team in receiving last year, and he's on pace to do so again this season, pacing the Cougars with 452 receiving yards. Pau'u has is up to 40 catches, 478 yards and five scores for the season.

Prediction

BYU should take care of business here. After two make-or-break weeks, the Cougars should enjoy a stress-free weekend from LaVell Edwards Stadium. Tyler Allgeier has the look of a Heisman candidate, and he should give their FCS foes a lot of problems here.

Take the Cougars spread in what should be a blowout.

PICK: BYU -24.5
