Preview
The San Francisco Giants will host the Atlanta Braves for a three-game set this weekend. The Braves took two of three meetings in Atlanta last month.
The Braves had their game postponed last night, but they were able to pick up two wins and remain atop the tightly contested NL East. This series in the Bay will be huge and it marks the start of a ten-game west coast trip for Atlanta.
The Giants just split a four-game set with the San Diego Padres. San Franisco currently holds the best record in the league, and they've cinched a playoff spot. With the Los Angeles Dodgers breathing down their neck and just one game back, they can't let their guard down here. They've won eleven of fifthteen this month, and they look bound for another vintage Giants postseason run.
Pitching matchup
Braves
Ian Anderson (7-5, 3.61 ERA) will start for Atlanta. He tied a career-high in strikeouts in his last outing, tossing nine Ks over five innings of work en route to his seventh win against the Miami Marlins. In his last start against the Giants, he didn't record any strikeouts, but he did toss six shutout innings. He's young, but he could just be next great Atlanta pitcher.
Giants
Logan Webb (10-3, 2.80 ERA) will get the call for San Fran. He has enjoyed a nice breakout in his third season in the Bay. Webb has one his last three decisions, and he hasn't thrown less than five strikeouts in his last eight starts. He's arguably been the Giants most consistent pitcher this season, and in his last start against the Braves, he threw seven shutout innings and struck out six.
Prediction
Both teams sit atop their respective divisions and they enter this series with a sense of urgency. The hold just a two-game lead with the Phillies and Mets within striking distance. The Giants hold the best record in the majors, yet they only hold a one-game lead in the NL West with the Dodgers breathing down their necks. San Fran has been hot this month, and their sending one of their best arms to the bump. We feel good trusting them at Oracle tonight. Take the Giants run line.
PICK: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+125)
