Preview

The Los Angeles Angels are in Baltimore for the second game of the three game series Wednesday night.  The Angels took advantage of the Orioles, winning 14-8 yesterday.  That broke their 3 game losing streak (a sweep by the Indians).  The Orioles are just what the doctor ordered for the Angels, who still have a shot at the Wild Card.  They have now lost 19 straight.

After scoring only 2 runs in the 3 games series against Cleveland, the Angels bats came alive last night, scoring 14 runs, jumping up early with 5 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th.

The Orioles did score 8 last night, with 3 run 5th and 6th innings, but continue to struggle overall.

Pitching matchup

Angels

Shohei Ohtani (8-1, 2.79 ERA), the ever-exciting pitcher / DH pitches for the Angels.  He's been phenomenal in both July and August in his last 6 starts.  In 3 starts in August, he's gone a combined 20.0 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 13 hits, with 3 walks and 20 strikeouts.  Orioles batters have gone 3 for 12 (.250 AVG) against Ohtani, with 2 home runs and 4 walks.

Orioles

Chris Ellis (1-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his first career start Wednesday.  He's pitched in one game as a reliever while at the Rays this season, going 4.0 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 walk and striking out 7.

Prediction

Ellis is untested as a starter, but did well in his one 4.0 inning relief appearance this season.  Ohtani has been on fire the last two months, with a sub-2 ERA.  The Angels bats came to life against the lowly Orioles, and they're likely licking their chops to see Ellis in his first start.  The Orioles bullpen is the second worst in the majors this year, with a 5.38 ERA.  The Angels need to sweep this series to stay in the Wild Card race, and tonight should be one step forward in doing that.  Take the Angels to win by more two plus runs.

PICK: Angels -2.0 (-109)
