Preview

Two of the youngest and brightest teams will face off when the Memphis Grizzlies host the Charlotte Hornets this evening.

Charlotte Hornets

Miles Bridges has asserted himself as the frontrunner for the NBA's Most Improved Player Award with his impressive start. He's cooled down a bit since a season-high 32 points in the lost to GSW, but Bridges leads the team in scoring (22.3) and rebounding (8.1).

LaMelo Ball's play has picked up in his second season as well. After cooling off from a hot start, Ball has scored 20+ in five of his last six games. Ball's averaging 19.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, and 6.3 apg.

Gordon Hayward and Kelly Oubre Jr. bring unique skillsets to the lineup. Hayward's ability to score, rebound and distribute has been on display early, while Oubre's two-way style has made life simpler on Miles Bridges.

Once Scary Terry gets going, this team could really cause some trouble in the East.

Memphis Grizzlies

Ja Morant has really upped his play this season. The third-year point guard is leading the team with 26.2 ppg, which is good for fourth in the NBA. He's really harassing teams in the paint, taking high pick & rolls, and finishing fantastically at the rack.

With Dillon Brooks on the shelf, Desmond Bane has stepped up in year two. The former TCU guard has reached double figures in every game this season, and he's averaging 16.3 ppg, up from last year's 9.2.

Jaren Jackson Jr. has struggled a bit with foul trouble this season, but he's beginning to thrive in the five spot. JJJ is scoring 1.6 ppg, and grabbing 6.2 rpg.

Replacing Jonas Val with Steven Adams has been a but of a drop off, but Aquaman still provides a reliable paint presence for this gritty, young team.

Prediction

Charlotte's road struggles have been documented, but they enter this game with a deeper rotation and more juice on the offensive end. The play of Charlotte frontcourt will be big on both sides of the ball, as a rough outing from Miles Bridges could lead to a big night for Ja Morant in the paint. We like toying with the flashy underdog in this manageable spot. Role with Charlotte's ML this evening.

PICK: Charlotte Hornets ML (+172)
