Preview

The New York Yankees will begin their west coast road trip with a four-game set with the Oakland Athletics. These four games are important, as the Yanks hold a three-game lead over the A's for the top AL Wild Card spot.

The Yankees haven't been denied in nearly two weeks. Their riding a well-timed eleven game win streak, and now appear to be in the drivers seat of the AL playoff picture. They only sit three games behind the Rays, so if this momentum continues they might steal the division crown after a pedestrian start to the season.

The Athletics started August on a win streak of their own but they've since cooled off at the wrong time. The A's have only won two of their last ten games, as inconsistencies at the plate continue to hinder their season. After dropping a pair of games to San Francisco and Seattle at home, Oakland can't afford for these four matchups to go wrong.

Pitching matchup

Yankees

Jameson Tallion (8-4, 3.94 ERA) will start for the Yankees. His first year in Bronx has gone relatively well after four years in Pittsburgh. The 6'5 right hander has found some momentum on the mound and hasn't recorded a loss in two months. He gave up three runs to the White Sox in his previous road start, and pitched six shutout innings in the two before. He's got wins at Fenway and Minute Maid Park this season, and he'll enter this start with confidence.

Athletics

James Kapriellan (7-4, 3.25 ERA) will take the mound for Oakland. The first-year pitcher has enjoyed a solid rookie season for the A's. Kap has ace of staff-like stuff and he's won his last three home starts. He gave up three runs over six innings of work and struck out seven in his last start against the Yankees.

Prediction

The Yankees just keep winning. After tackling Charlie Morton on Tuesday, the heavy hitting lineup of the Yanks will present a formidable test for the A's. Their bats may not be able to keep up with New York's, as outside of Starling Marte and Matt Olson, offense has been hard to come by for Oakland. These teams are a tale of two different tapes right now, and we're going to back the hot squad tonight. This one should be close so take the Yankees moneyline.

PICK: New York Yankees (-110)
