Preview
The Wisconsin Badgers and the Arizona State Sun Devils will meet in Paradise for this year's Las Vegas Bowl
Wisconsin responded to a 1-3 start by winning seven of their final eight games to close to season at 8-4. The Badgers bring in one of the stingiest defenses in the nation, only alowing 16.4 ppg this year.
Herm Edwards team enjoyed a successful 2021 season, reaching their highest win total in four seasons.
Offensive matchup
Wisconsin (8-4)
The Badgers have taken their annual approach to the passing game, keeping things as conservative as possible with Graham Mertz behind center.
The second-year starter didn/t have much free reign in Wisconsin's run-heavy attack, producing underwhelming results. Mertz threw for 1,821 passing yards with nine touchdowns to ten interceptions, while adding four scores on the ground.
Chez Mellusi and Brandon Allen have been strong out of the backfield this season. Allen paced the team with 1,109 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns after a big month of November. Mellusi finished with 815 yards and five scores.
Danny Davis III led the team with 478 receiving yards, while senior tight end Jake Ferguson led the team with 43 receptions.
Arizona State (8-4)
Jayden Daniels grew in his third year behind center. The dual-threat quarterback threw for 2,221 passing yards with ten touchdowns to nine interceptions, and he also added 670 yards and six scores on the ground.
Rachaad White has brought physical presence to the backfield this season. The junior back eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in the win over Arizona, and he's scored a PAC-12 best 15 touchdowns.
Ricky Pearsall leads the team in receptions (44), receiving yards (515) and touchdown catches (4).
Prediction
Both of these schools are stronger on the defensive ends than they are offensively, and we could be in for a battle of field position. Whoever stops the run better will win this football game, but I like the under in this spot.
Take the under for this Wisconsin/Arizona State matchup.
