Preview

The Virginia Cavaliers will host the Virginia Tech Hokies for an ACC battle this Wednesday night.

The Hokies jumped out to a strong 5-0 start, and managed to walk away from non-conference wins over Maryland and St. Bonaventure, but they've dropped their first two ACC games.

The Cavaliers began conference play with a loss, but they've responded with tough road wins over Syracuse and Clemson. The Wahoos are currently 6-2 as hosts this season.

 

Virginia Tech (8-6)

Keve Aluma returned after a strong first season in Blacksburg. The Wofford transfer has three double-doubles on the season, and he leads the team with 15.2 ppg, while grabbing 6.4 rpg.

Hunter Cattoor is a sniper whose been given more free reign this season. The 6'4 guard is second on the team in scoring (10.1), while leading the Hokies in three-point shooting at 44.6%.

Justyn Mutts joins Aluma in the frontcourt. The 6'7 forward scored 20 points in the loss to Duke, and he leads the team in rebounding (7.5), while scoring 9.9 ppg.

Nahiem Alleyne start his third season strong, but he's been in a funk over his past four games. He's scoring 10.0 ppg, but Tech will need more from him soon.

 

Storm Murphy, Aluma's former teammate at Wofford, has brought a punch to the lineup. The 6' guard scores 8.6 ppg and he's hit multiple threes in each of the past four games.

Virginia (9-6)

Virginia opened conference play with a loss, but they've responded with tough road wins over Syracuse and Clemson. The Wahoos are currently 6-2 as hosts this season.

The Wahoos are powered by transfer portal signees Jayden Gardner and Armaan Franklin. Gardner has transferred in from ECU and has asserted himself as a force down low, leading the team with 15.1 ppg and 7.6 rpg.

Franklin, an Indiana transfer, paced the team with 23 points on 8-16 shooting against Georgia and he's second on the team in scoring (12.1). He's joined by senior point guard Kihei Clark, who's averaging 9.9 ppg and 4.1 apg.

Sophomores Reece Beekman and Kadin Shedrick join them in the starting lineup, with the former leading the team in assists (4.4).

Prediction

Tech's frontcourt may have tough time on the road here, in what should be a Saturday night like atmosphere. Look for UVA to get a little revenge for what occured on the gridiron six weeks ago and pick up the win here.
