Preview

The Vanderbilt Commodores will travel to Neyland Stadium and take on the Tennessee Volunteers.

It has been an abysmal season for Vanderbilt. They're 0-7 in conference play and have struggled to keep up with the powers of the SEC. Note, the Commodores have quietly blessed bettors by covering five of their last seven spreads.

Tennessee has been solid on the field this year, but they've been even better on the books. Though the Vols have only posted a 6-5 record this season, they've covered each of their last eight spreads, capitalizing big as underdogs.

Offensive matchup

Vanderbilt (2-9)

Mike Wright has brought some sense of optimism to the quarterback over the past few weeks. The dual-threat QB had a big game against Mizzou, tossing three touchdowns while rushing for 152 rushing yards.

Freshman back Patrick Smith leads the team in rushing after a pair of strong back-to-back performances. Smith is gained 84 yards last week against Kentucky,  and 95 yards & a score against Mizzou.

Chris Pierce Jr. leads an underwhelming group of pass catchers. The senior wideout paces the team with 53 catches for 609 receiving yards.

Tennessee (8-3)

Hendon Hooker took over in Week 2 and didn't look back, enjoying a nice first season in Knoxville. The Virginia Tech transfer tossed a pair of touchdowns for the eighth time this season, while also scoring on the ground.

Hooker is up to 2,411 passing yards with an impressive td:int ratio of 24/3, and 485 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the season.

Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright split the touches in the with over South Alabama. Both backs scored twice, while Small paces the team with 509 rushing yards and six scores.

Velus Jones Jr. and Cedric Tillman have given the Vols one of the better receiver parings in the SEC. Both wideout have 50 catches on the season, while Tillman leads with 825 yards and seven touchdowns. Jones Jr., an electric USC transfer have scored in five of the last seven games.

Prediction

Vanderbilt will enter Knoxville over matched here, as they will have to face one of the stronger Tennessee teams we've seen in years. Hendon Hooker is a talented dual-threat quarterback, capable of providing enough explosiveness to cover the massive margin.

Trust Tennessee with this margin, and take their spread this weekend.

PICK: Tennessee -28.5
