Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies will wrap up their three-game set this evening. These too teams have split the first two matchups.

The Phillies failed to respond to an abrupt 12-0 win to kick off the series, and failed to get on the board last night. They sit just two games behind both the Braves in the NL East, and the final NL Wild Card spot, so they need to get going at the plate this evening. They will have their work cut out for them dealing with Freddy P.

The Brewers responded with a big 10-0 victory last night behind the arm of Eric Lauer and consistency at the plate. Milwaukee sits comfortably above the NL Central and their slowing creeping up on the number-one seed in the playoffs. A win here would send them into a very managable stretch to end the regular season.

Pitching matchup

Phillies

Kyle Gibson (10-6, 3.30 ERA) gets the start for Philly. He's solid since coming over from Texas at the deadline. Despite getting roguhed up in his last road outing in Miami, he only gave up one run over eight innings of work in the previous road start in San Diego. He struggled a bit to get out of the weeds this season, so that might something to note.

Padres

Freddy Peralta (9-4, 2.70 ERA) will get the call for the Brew Crew. He's put it all together in his fourth year in Milwaukee. Freddy P has set career-highs in wins and strikeouts, and a career-low in ERA. This will be his second start since a DL-stint, but after his first All-Star appearance this season, we think he'll be fine tonight as he tunes up for the postseason.

Prediction

The infamous three-game series split matchup. This is always the toughest one to call, and with two good arms on the mound, it only makes it tougher. With both teams displaying outburst against solid pitching in the first two games, neither lineup should be overlooked tonight. We feel comfortable taking the home team tonite in their quest for the best record in the NL. Look for Freddy P to bring the same stability he has all season, and take the Brewers run line.

PICK: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (+125)
