Preview
Today the Athletics will take on the Tigers in the second game of their three game series. The A's sit 5 games back in the AL West behind only the Astros. They're 1 game back for the second wild card spot, trailing the Boston Redsox. Detroit is firmly out of the playoff hunt and are mainly looking at the young talent that they have. They've been a pesky team and have been a suprise to most this year. Oakland is 10-0 on the road in Detroit in their last 10 meetings.

James Kaprielian (7-4, 3.65 ERA) will be on the mound for the Athletics when they take on the Tigers. The young right hander comes into this game with a 1.19 WHIP and 5.01 XFIP. To this point in the season he has a 24% strikeout rate accompanied by a high 9% walk rate. Kap faces a Tigers team that strikes out at 24.7% clip against right handed pitching. He's been succeptible to the long ball this year, giving up some hard contact to both sides of the plate.
Tigers
Wily Peralta (3-3, 3.63 ERA) will take the mound for the Detroit Tigers today. He comes into this game with a 1.26 WHIP and 5.01 XFIP, similar numbers to Kaprielian. He enters this game with a very low 15.5% strike out rate accompanied by a 8.6% walk rate. Peralta will have to rely on a good amount of luck to get through this outting against an A's team that puts the ball in play and walks at a 10.3% clip against right handed pitching.
Prediction
Both pitchers enter this game having been a bit lucky this season. Kap brings the strikeout upside against a weak Tigers team, while Peralta relies on his defense to make outs. I'll take the better offense backed by the the better starting pitcher in this one.
