Preview

The Houston Astros will continue their road trip and travel to Safeco Field to take on the Seattle Mariners for a three-game set to close the month of August.

The Astros have recovered nicely from a mid-month slump to win seven of their last ten games. They stunned bettors by failing to wrap up a sweep over the Rangers yesterday, but they've been one of the more reliable teams in baseball. They bring one of the best lineups in the league to the plate every night, and they've fared pretty well against the Mariners this season.

The Mariners finally figured things out yesterday, defeating the Royals to avoid a sweep and their fourth straight loss. Seattle's lineup has gone pedestrian at times, but their always a threat to win from Safeco. Despite the three-game skid, the Mariners remain just four games back in the AL Wild Card picture.

Pitching matchup

Astros

Luis Garcia (10-6-4, 3.21 ERA) will get the start for Houston. He earned his tenth win in his last outing, giving up zero runs while tossing seven strikeouts in seven innings against the Royals. He has struggled a bit on the road this season, and in his last start in Seattle, he didn't make it through the fifth inning, giving up five runs but still managing to strike out nine hitters.

Mariners

Chris Flexen (11-5, 3.54 ERA) will take the mound for Seattle. He's leads the Mariners in wins in his first season with the team. He's locked in a bit over his past five starts, only giving up more than three runs once to a hot Yankees team. His last start against Houston didn't go well, surviving just four innings while surrendering seven runs.

Prediction

It feels like it's been a tough to trust either one of these AL West teams as of late. Houston's talent will always make them appealing to select, while Seattle continues to finds way to win, without the offensive resources. When these two teams met last week at Minute Maid Park, the over was 3/3. We want to take that same path tonight, as the number eight feels generous with these two streaky teams. Take the over.

PICK: Over 8 (-115)
