Preview

A Lightweight contest pits two UFC debutants against each other, as Nikolas Motta takes on Cameron VanCamp. Motta enters this bout on a three-fight win streak, with his most recent fight coming in Dana White’s Contender Series. Motta was supposed to debut earlier this year in May, however an injury paused those plans. Meanwhile, VanCamp is stepping up on short notice to make his UFC debut. Having rattled off four consecutive wins, and most recently fighting a little less than two months ago, VanCamp heads into this fight with momentum.

Prediction

Originally, Nikolas Motta was set to fight UFC veteran Jim Miller. In my opinion, a much tougher fight, as Miller is an absolute grinder who latches onto limbs should you leave an opening. Now, Motta has a short notice opponent in Cameron VanCamp in front of him. A wrestler and serviceable striker, who is tall and lengthy for the weight class. While VanCamp looks to be a fun fighter, his resume lacks big named victories. Even his last defeat to a near forty year old Bobby Voelker is a head scratcher. A fight where he was swept multiple times from the bottom, as well as taken down and controlled with ease.

As for a prediction, I have Motta winning. The Ricardo Almeida product is an excellent striker, who features speed and power on the feet. While VanCamp is game on the feet, often throwing flying knees, his defense is leaky and prime for the picking in this fight. Even if VanCamp looks to wrestle, Motta has shown excellent takedown defense and an ability to not accept bottom position. If VanCamp manages to take down Motta, his top control is too vulnerable for him not to get swept. In the end, I see Motta keeping this fight upright and notching his ninth knockout victory.
