Preview

Two pacific schools will collide when Oregon Ducks will host the California Golden Bears this Friday. Oregon will be looking to avenge their first loss of the season, while Cal will be looking to avoid their third straight conference loss.

Cal struggled at home last weekend, and suffered their fourth loss of the season to Washington State. The Golden Bears fell behind at halftime and failed to score in the second half, losing 21-6.

Oregon suffered their first blemish of the season on a road trip to Stanford for the second time in three years. After the Ducks took their first lead in the third quarter, the Cardinal rallied and won the game in overtime, 31-24.

Offensive matchup
California (1-4, 0-2)

Chase Garbers is coming off of his roughest start of the year. After scoring three touchdowns in each of the last two games, the senior quarterback only went 14-30 for 152 passing yards and failed to produce a score in the loss to Washington State. He gives Cal a dual threat behind center, but he hasn't gotten them over the hump yet this season.

Leading rusher Damien Moore also struggled last weekend, finishing with only 9 rushing yards. He leads the team with 313 yards and five scores, but he could have a tough time against a strong Oregon front seven. Trevon Clark leads the team in catches (16), yards (322), and touchdowns (2).

Oregon (4-1, 1-1)

Anthony Brown was impressive on the road against Ohio State, but he struggled in Palo Alto last weekend. The BC transfer went 14-26 for 186 passing yards and an interception, but he did score twice on the ground. A home start against a fadiing Cal team is just what the senior quarterback needs here.

The Ducks lost star back CJ Verdell to injury, but veteran back Travis Dye stepped up with his best performance of the season. After rushing for 96 yards and catching four passes, Dye is set to have a feature role going forward. Oregon leans on the run game, and doesn't possess the strongest group of pass catchers, but Johnny Johnson III leads the team with 11 catches for 162 passing yards.

Defensive matchup

Cal has struggled to stop anyone defensively this season, especially in the fourth quarter. In three of the Golden Bears four losses, they've blown leads in the final period.

Oregon had trouble capitalyzing last weekend, and the results showed on the scoreboard, and put their defense in bad spots. They've only given up one 100-yard rusher in five games.

Prediction

After suffering their first setback of the season, Oregon is in a prime spot to respond at home. The Golden Bears have remained within striking distance in all four of their losses, but they haven't showed enough offensively to trust them on the road against an angry group of Ducks at the Zoo. With a matchup in the Rose Bowl with UCLA looming, look for Oregon to get back in the win column with a victory over Cal.

Start the weekend off right and take Oregon's spread Friday.

PICK: Oregon Ducks -11.5
