Preview
The Blue Jays will be in the Bronx tonight to take on the New York Yankees. This will be the 3rd game of their 4 game series, the Blue Jays took both games so far outscoring the Yankees 13-1 in those games. The Yankees went on a run but have struggled since, going 2-8 in their last 10 games, not the best timing to start losing games again if you ask me. Though they have been struggling they currently sit in the top AL wildcard spot 0.5 games ahead of the Red Sox. They'll look to turn things around tonight against the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays come into the game on a nice little streak, going 9-1 in their last 10 games and winning 6 straight. Due to their recent run they currently sit 2 games back of a wild card spot behind division rivals the Boston Red Sox, they sit 2.5 games back of this Yankees team as well for a wildcard spot. This is a big series for both teams as they try to fight for a wildcard spot.
Pitching matchup
Blue Jays
Alek Manoah (5-2, 3.63 ERA) will be on the mound for the traveling Blue Jays tonight to take on the Yankees. Manoah comes into this game with a 1.10 WHIP and 4.43 XFIP. This season he boasts a 25.2% strikeout rate paired with a 9.2% walk rate. Monaoh has been solid in his rookie season since being called up. He struggled his last start against the Athletics, going 5 innings while allowing 6 ER's. He has had succes inducing softer contact and keeping right handed hitters in check only allowing a .053 ISO and .206 wOBA, both great numbers. He has been better in the strikeout department against left handed hitters this year but has also been succeptible to more contact and power in the split as well. He will look to bounce back tonight against a loaded but struggling Yankees team.
Yankees
Luis Gill (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will be on the mound for the Yankees tonight when they host the Blue Jays. He enters this game with a 1.02 WHIP and 5.02 XFIP. In his 15.2 innings so far this season he boasts a 28.1% strikeout rate paired with a high 10.9% walk rate. Gill has made 3 starts for the Yankees since being called up, throwing 15.2 innings, striking out 18 hitters, walking 7 hitters, and has yet to allow an earned run. The 23 year old right hander has had some walk issues but has faired well so far in the small sample. His last start which came on August 17th was against the Red Sox where he went 4.2 innings with 4 strikeouts and 0 ER's. He will have his toughest test to date when he takes on a red hot Blue Jays team tonight at home.
Prediction
I'll look to target the total in this one. We have 2 pitchers in this game that have been solid when called upon for thier rookie seasons this year. The Blue Jays might get cooled off alittle tonight by Gill and I expect the Yankees to continue to struggle against the big right handed hurler in Monoah.
PICK: Under 10 (-110) Blue Jays ML (+105)
