Preview

The Yankees will travel down to Atlanta to take on the Braves in a two-game interleague series. These teams played earlier this season in New York and they split the two-game set in Yankee Stadium with the Yankees winning 3-1 and then the Braves winning 4-1 back in late April.

The Yankees continue to put a solid amount of runs on the board as they are averaging 5.56 runs per game throughout their nine-game winning streak.

The Braves bats have been on fire as well throughout their own nine-game winning streak. They are scoring 6.44 runs per game throughout the streak, though they have had an easy stretch in their schedule as they have beaten the Nationals, Marlins, and Orioles in this current streak.

Pitching matchup

Yankees

Jordan Montgomery (4-5, 3.77 ERA) will be pitching here for the Yankees. He is coming off a no-decision in his first game back from the COVID IL as he went against the Boston Red Sox where he went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Gumpy has been pitching well in night games as he is 4-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 13 starts. He faced Atlanta once last season and hitters went 4-for-23 (.174) with three runs scored but Marcell Ozuna had the most success and he will not be in this game. It will be interesting as these hitters struggled against Montgomery last time they faced one another.

Braves

Huascar Ynoa (4-2, 2.70 ERA) takes the mound for the Braves here. He's coming off a solid outing despite not factoring into the decision against the Miami Marlins as he went 5.1 shutout innings while giving up three hits with a walk and four strikeouts. That was his first appearance in an MLB game since May 16 as he is returning from a fractured right hand. He faced the Yankees once last season and struggled in that start despite not getting the loss as he went one inning and allowed two runs on four hits with three walks and zero strikeouts. He pitches well at home as he is 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA so it will be interesting how he looks against a solid lineup.

Prediction

These teams are both riding nine-game winning streaks but they are not equal as the Yankees played better opponents during their streak compared to the Braves. Ynoa looks 100 percent but pitching against the Marlins and the Yankees are two different things. New York's bullpen is completely rested as they haven't had anyone of note pitch since Thursday, so expect the big-named relievers to appear in this game. These lineups should be able to produce runs but the Yankees bullpen is better so go with the Yankees to win here to open this two-game set.
