Preview

The Ole Miss Rebels and the Marquette Golden Eagles will meet in the first round of the Charleston Classic this Thursday from TD Arena.

The Golden Eagles pulled off a big road win over Illinois on Monday, and they enter the Charleston Classic with an unblemished record. The Golden Eagles forced a whopping 26 turnovers en route to a comeback victory, 67-66.

The Rebels Miss have won their first two games behind strong efforts on both sides of the court. Both games have resulted in 20+-point victories and covers.

Marquette (3-0)

Darryl Morsell has come in and assumed a Markus Howard-type role already. The Maryland transfer has opened the season with a trio of 20-point performances, while shooting 60% from the field.

Justin Lewis and Kur Kuath will anchor the Golden Eagles frontcourt. Lewis, 6'9 forward, has already posted a pair of double-doubles, and he looks set to lead the team in rebounding this year. Kuath, an Oklahoma transfer, has the size and length to alter games from the paint.

Tyler Kolek finally got it going in game three after coming over from George Mason. The sharpshooting sophomore posted a well-rounded line of 12 points, five boards, and five assists against Illinois.

Ole Miss (2-0)

Jarkel Joiner returns as the Rebels most experienced player and leader. After averaging 12 points in first year over from CSUB, the 6'1 guard scored 24 in the win over Charleston Southern.

Austin Crowley joins him in the back court, and he looks to take that third-year leap. The junior guard dished out a career-high nine dimes in the victory over the Buccaneers.

Luis Rodriguez is a versatile player who will also be counted on more in his third season. The 6'6 swingman is averaging a career-best 11.5 ppg, and 5 rpg so far.

Transfers Jaemyn Brakefield and Tye Fagan have been looked upon early. They both put up double-figures in the win over New Orleans, while Brakefield, a Duke transfer, grabbed nine rebounds last time out.

Prediction

Ever since Dwayne Wade took them on that deep postseason run, Marquette has been one of those schools. They can pull out an upset in any manageable spot, and their a bettors dream. We saw it on the road against UNC last year, and against Illinois on Monday. This Golden Eagles team comes in more battle-tested, deeper, and arguably better coached. I feel confident swaying their way for an upset here.

Take Marquette's ML, and even toy with their spread.
